Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), author of the Campus SaVE Act and the Campus Accountability and Safety Act (CASA), released the following statement in reaction to the proposed rule changes to Title IX from Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos:

“This proposal seems intended to make college campuses safe spaces to commit sexual assault and harassment instead of safe spaces to learn. By narrowing the definition of what qualifies as sexual harassment and raising the bar for how assault claims will be judged, fewer people will report assault and harassment, schools will become more dangerous, and more and more survivors will not have the equal access to education to which they are legally entitled. Congress must not let this proposal become a reality.”
